Update on UMore Park Development

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Sue Schedin got this response to a query regarding UMore Park development - good news for all horse trail users!

Dear Sue,

Thank you for taking the time to offer comments on the value of the Lone
 Rock Trail and your experiences.

In brief, I want to distinguish activities on two separate segments of the
property. It is the 5,000 northerly acres of the property that is
envisioned for development. The southern reaches of the property,
specifically the 2,822 acres referred to as Vermillion Highlands, will
remain a natural area. The horse trail is located entirely on the
Vermillion Highlands property. Vermillion Highlands is jointly managed by
the University of Minnesota and the state Department of Natural Resources.
It will not be directly affected by development on the 5,000 acres to the
 north.

Should your schedule change, I hope you will join us for the UMore Park
listening session tonight or tomorrow night at the Rosemount Community
Center. Details are on our website at www.umorepark.umn.edu. Please also
continue to visit the website for updates on various aspects of planning
on the northern 5,000 acres of the property and related information on the
vision for a University-founded community on the UMore Park property.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your interest in the UMore
 Park property.

CHAMP SHOW–SUNDAY, SEPT. 23rd

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Bernadette and Shadow will be participating in the Champ Show this coming Sunday, Sept. 23rd in Intermediate Poles.  This is their first Champ Show and Bernie is really excited.

For any early birds who would like to watch, the classes start at 7:00 a.m. and are running simultaneously.  Bernadette and Shadow are in the third class.

I do not know how long each class takes to run, but I would guess if things go smoothly they should be competing fairly early in the morning.

Hope to see ya there!

Invitation to Horse Rescue Benefit at Crow-Hassen, Sep 21-23

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

I received the following invitation and thought some SRSC members might be interested…

Greetings,

My name is Leigh Harrod, and I ride frequently at Crow Hassen Park. Earlier this year, you may recall there was a lot of email discussion about the future of Crow-Hassen horse trails. I was one of the participants along with you and many others in that email exchange. That is why I happen to have your email address. I hope you don’t mind if I use it now to contact you, because I want to invite you to a gathering of horse types that I am having in September at Crow-Hassen Park.

This invitation is to gather at the River Bend Group Camp during the weekend of Sept 21-23 for a horse party and fundraiser. I have reserved River Bend for the entire weekend. The party is also a fund-raiser for Horse Rescue and Retirement. I have attached a flyer about the event, but understand you may not feel comfortable opening an attachment from someone you don’t know. So the same information can be found on the web site of the Rescue Farm that I am sponsoring with this event,”Rolling Rock Equine Rescue and Retirement, Inc.,” in Beldenville, Wisconsin. Their web site is www.rollingrockrescue.com/ They too are coming to this party, and will be bringing 3 adoptable horses with them, all seeking new owners. For those of us who are passionate about the Crow Hassen horse trails, I thought gathering at River Bend would also be a good opportunity to reconnect and network like we did earlier this year, only do so face-to-face while we enjoy the trails. We would be supporting a worthy cause all at the same time. I was so impressed last spring by the outpouring of responses and opinions regarding the future of Crow-Hassen park horse trails. So the gathering I am having the weekend of Sept 21-23 is open to all who would like to stop by, trial ride, camp, or just join the party. Overnight camping is available, too, on a limited basis until the River Bend Group Camp is at capacity. The attached flyer has the details if you are interested, or you can read about it at the Rescue’s web site mentioned above.

Thanks! And I hope you will consider coming; bring your horse and a good friend (they are usually one in the same, I know). –
